Green space security deadlines

The safety periods for phytosanitary products are essential to ensure the well-being of users of green spaces. Technicians apply them to maintain plant health and conserve spaces, but generally a whole approach has been carried out beforehand. integrated pest management to use as little product as possible.

The Directive 2009/128/EC of the European Parliament together with the Council of 21 October 2009 detail guidelines for the appropriate use of plant protection products.

Royal Decree 3349/1983 of 30 November 1983 defines Security Period the period of time that must elapse from the application of a pesticide to plants, animals or their products until harvesting or use or, where appropriate, entry into treated areas or enclosures.

The safety period is indicated on the product label.

And it also points out that the enclosure where the treatment has been applied, in order to better protect against the risks and effects arising from the use of plant protection products, the safety period for entry would apply to the whole enclosure even if some of the plants have not been treated.

The product label states the safety period that each product has before it can be used. Reading the label carefully will prevent application errors.

Where enforcement is the only alternative, the following should be considered:

• Use the safest products
• Avoid user contact with the treated area until the safety period has elapsed.
• Use applicators with a low risk of drift and with a delta T less than 8
• Carrying out applications without an audience
• Correct waste management
• Wearing PPE
