The interactions between the ball and the sport surface are important to ensure the proper gameplay on football pitches. Homogeneous and standard behaviour must be ensured throughout the pitch.

Thus, it is possible to determine the vertical behaviour of the ball by means of the following test.
  1. Purpose and field of application. Determination of the height of the rebound of a ball when it falls vertically on a surface.
  2. Principle of the method. Measurement of the rebound height of a balloon inflated to a pressure of 0,7 bar falling vertically on a surface. The rebound height is calculated as a percentage of the initial height.
  3. Description of the team. Ball-launching device, which operates without collision, without transmitting momentum or rotation to the ball and which allows the ball to be launched vertically from a specified height. It must be fitted with a base that allows it to be vertical and a graduated scale, either in height or in percentage of bounce from the initial height. Standardised ball, inflated to 0,7 bar pressure and calibrated on a rigid surface.
  4. Operating procedure. The balloon must be kept for at least one hour at the temperature and humidity of the site (these data will also be recorded); it is then placed in the holder and released by means of the release mechanism. Taking of rebound height reading. The data may be recorded visually or by means of an acoustic recording device. Five readings shall be taken at randomly selected points in each of the goal, touchline and centre areas.
  5. Calculation and expression of results. The average is calculated for each zone.
  6. Report test. UNE 41959-1-2002 IN; Surface identification; Location; Area and previous history; Rebound value per area; Individual test results; Details of any deviations from the procedure.
