The Dollar Spot (Clarireedia jacksonii) It is a leaf disease that commonly affects high-performance lawns, such as golf courses, sports pitches and private gardens. This disease is caused by the fungus Clarireedia jacksonii and generally requires repeated applications of fungicides to control it.
Symptoms of dollar spot
The symptoms of dollar spot vary depending on the grass species and management practices. When fine-textured grasses (such as bentgrass or Bermuda grass) are mown very short, the symptoms first appear as small, straw-coloured, circular patches of turf the size of a coin.

Conditions that promote infection
- Clarireedia spp. can survive in a wide range of temperatures, from 4 to 32 °C, with the optimum temperature for infection being between 15 and 27 °C .
- The optimum temperature combined with high humidity (>85%) and prolonged periods of leaf wetness caused by rain, dew or watering encourage the growth of the fungus on plants.
- McDonald et al. (2006) showed that dollar spot severity increased when agrostis was irrigated deeply and infrequently, and that disease severity was negatively correlated with soil moisture.
Tiloom Nutritional Trials and Programmes
Exceptional results were achieved in the 2022 trials on dollar spot control at Rutgers University. Treatment No. 57, which did not use fungicides, produced very good results in terms of plant health, keeping dollar spot at low levels. The treatments were carried out with one application every two weeks.
The main aim is to improve environmental conditions and enhance plant health through proper nutrition and by reducing stress. As a result, healthy plants and an improved growing environment lead to a more resilient lawn, thereby reducing the need for chemicals to control diseases.

Results

Dew control
Reducing leaf moisture and removing early morning dew is one of the most effective cultivation practices for preventing and controlling dollar spot (Clarireedia (et al.).
DewSweeper, featuring RST technology, is the best solution for dew control.

It adheres to the leaf without damaging the waxy cuticle.
It significantly reduces surface tension, thereby reducing or eliminating the formation of condensation.
Dew Sweeper is stable and, according to university trials, has been shown to be effective for up to 8 days.
Over time, Dew Sweeper needs to be reapplied due to grass growth, mowing and the natural breakdown of the product.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
It is a common leaf disease affecting high-performance turf (such as golf courses and sports pitches), caused by the fungus Clarireedia jacksonii.
On fine, closely mown lawns (such as agrostis or Bermuda), the symptoms first appear as small, circular, straw-coloured patches about the size of a coin.
It provides 21 % of silica, which is converted into silicic acid (monosilicic acid) that can be taken up by the plant, giving the turf turgidity and promoting plant health. The recommended application rate is 3 to 10 L/ha.
It provides 12 % of calcium (from calcium acetate and calcium carbonate), acts as an alkaline buffer in the spray tank and serves as an ideal compatibility agent for SILI-K. The application rate is 10 L/ha.
It adheres to the leaf without damaging the waxy cuticle and significantly reduces the surface tension of water. It remains effective for up to 8 days.
