The C4 specie invasion (e.g. bermuda) on C3, e.g. on the rings of the greens at agrostis is very common, due to the increasing use of bermuda and other C4 around C3 greens.
There are two types of solutions to this problem:
(a) Transactions in chemical components (very important to check your country's regulations on phytosanitary products).
Siduron y ethofumesate eliminate bermudagrass. However, there is a risk of phytotoxicity in the rings of greens of agrostis where it is used. The best time for treatment is spring and autumn, when these greens are actively growing, and not the C4 varieties.
Temporarily, mixtures of siduron and flurprimidol, (Source: L.B. Mc Carty et al 2001). The use of the post-emergence herbicide phenoxaproc-ethyl can also be a solution when applied in the agrostis rings (beware of phytotoxicity in agrostis: very low doses are recommended), although the bermudagrass tends to resprout after a short time.
Another option for monitoring can be carried out through growth regulators on bermudagrass antegreens, to prevent its introduction on the greens: Trinexipac-ethyl is a good growth regulator for this species.
b) Work mechanics
Cutting the stolons of the C4 species on the rings of the C3 greens is another management of the problem that is being implemented thanks to the appearance of tools in use.
If you are in need of tools for stolon trimming, please do not hesitate to write to us at info@tiloom.com, and we will be happy to assist you. Our team of agronomists can work with you to find a solution to your problems.
