The homogeneity in the cut is a fundamental parameter in the presentation and correct maintenance of the sports surfaces. The test procedure is described below:
- Purpose and field of application. Determination of the grass height on sports surfaces.
- Principle of the method. The height of the turf is determined by observing an oriented mirror that reflects the grass on a scale graduated in mm.
- Description of equipment. Apparatus consisting of a metal frame with a millimetre scale on one side and a mirror at an angle of 45 degrees on the opposite side, so that the observer placed vertically reads the scale at the height of the lawn.
- Operating procedure. Place the apparatus gently on the lawn, resting it on both sides. Kneel down and look in the mirror so that the observer's optical line passes through the cutting surface on the graduated scale. The closed view gives the effective cutting height.
- Calculation and expression of results. The average of all readings for each area is calculated to represent the average height per area.
- Report test. UNE 41959-1:2002 IN; Identification of surface, location, area and previous history; Mean value of turf height; Individual results if required; Details of any deviations from the procedure.
