The movement of both the players and the ball takes place on the vegetation cover. The height of cut is therefore a very representative variable in the game.
The height of the turf is so important that it completely changes the speed of the game and the firmness of the surface. Long grass slows the ball down quickly, so play is slower and passes are shorter. In addition, players suffer more fatigue when moving on long grass as it is softer and absorbs more energy from the impact of the boot on the ground. On the other hand, the short grass does not slow down the rolling of the ball and makes it easier to run on it.
In the following video we explain how the test is carried out.
The standard UNE-EN 12233 on the "Determination of grass height on natural grass" is the basis for the test, although the "Determination of grass height on natural grass" is the basis for the test.FIFA Test Method 18″ (within 2015 Testing Guidelines) is a more practical standard for the determination of the height of cut. To make a correct assessment it is necessary to measure at several significant points in the field, the more the better.
To follow the quality standards for natural turf, the heights shall be between 15 and 35 mm. This ensures the health of the player, the vegetation cover as well as the playability of the terrain.
To obtain good readings, it is recommended to calibrate the mower frequently to the desired height, to keep the blades sharp and to avoid deformation of the field with sand mulch.
